Single storey side and rear extension, Hertfordshire

An exciting and interesting project. The shell was a solid 1970’s built detached property functioning as a 1970s home with an existing extension to the side and a protruding steel externally restricting headroom internally.

The new owners approached us with their requirements, they were very specific about what they wanted to achieve. They accepted that the house needed extending and remodelling but they also wanted to maintain as much garden as possible. This set the brief and parameters which led to improving the existing extension by increasing the height of the construction.

The finished work brought it in line with current building standards and clearly defined all the spaces allowing the areas to work together without segregating or partitioning areas. The roof of the existing extension was raised and integrated with the existing living room. It also allowed for a more formal, hideaway/quiet area at the front of the house.

The changes only encroached into the garden by 2 meters but created a more inviting space which the clients have said works well for their lifestyle.

A feature which they did not have previously was a space to put coats and shoes. We managed to retain the existing hallway width but incorporate an area by nibbling a small area from the garage.

The clients were delighted with the design including some of the smallest features such as the cloak room which they really appreciated

“Paresh led us through the process for a large ground floor wrap-around extension. He came up with design ideas and features we hadn't considered, suggestions to keep costs sensible, together with practical suggestions. All executed with great attention to detail and our needs in mind.

Along the way, we found that Paresh was held in high regard by the Planning Officer, and the builders were impressed with his drawings, making their job easier. Our dated 1960s box house was transformed into a stylish, contemporary, light and airy space, which is suiting our way of life beautifully. Paresh was delightful to deal with and we have no hesitation in recommending him.”
